The floating ball valve design is based on the concept that both seat preload and the line pressure contribute to a compressive force between the ball and seat to create a bubble tight shut-off at low and high pressure drop. The line pressure forces the ball to the downstream seat, the seat flexes and create the seal. The upstream seat is forced forward, allowing the pressure to penetrate from behind through the groove and into the body cavity, relieving the load and reducing its wear.
